Hotel Architecture Today

Explorations facetious and serious on tourist landscape

The project proposes a reflection on the visual landscape in tourist places, tackling the case of the Italian Adriatic coast of Romagna, a district which represents one the traditional destinations for mass tourism.

The project focuses on hotels as places that summarise a whole conception and narration of a particularly outdated – yet still much practiced – model of tourist experience. The aim is to create an archive that documents the shapes, colours and names of a series of hotels located between Rimini and Cattolica.

Alpine space

The project proposes a transnational as well as transdiciplinary approach to the issue of the transformation of the role of Alpine cities in the European and international context.

It aims to develop a comparative study of different Alpine local cases, focusing on the topics of social representations and imagination of places and territories, on the one hand, and on the practices that concretely shape urban and territorial Alpine environments, on the other.

Concurrently, the project seeks to create and strengthen a transnational network of young researchers based in the Alpine area, with background in sociology, architecture, geography, ecology and urban studies, who are currently engaged in research into Alpine urbanity, territoriality, and landscape.

‘ON WALLS’ WORKING GROUP

It is a small, independent and free research group on walls and practices related to walls (planners, administrators, investors, muralists, graffiti writers, street artists, designers, advertisers…) in the context of contemporary urban environments.

The rationale of the group is to circulate articles and relevant information, exchange views and research experiences, as well as discuss research agendas. At the present the group includes about 20 members from all over the world.

So far, the group has organised two conferences: Trento (2008); Lisbon (2009).
